Although strictly speaking not BCSC news, it is a pleasure to announce that a piece of software technology designed by BCSC's founder Guus Bonnes, has been granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent describes how to use RACF profiles to implement a RACF security policy. The technology is used in Consul Insight zLock. For more information on the patent, please visit the USPTO website. The patent can be found here.

RACF-Offline version 1.2 is now available. New functions include:
  • Support for z/OS 1.7
  • Some corrections to previous z/OS 1.6 support:
If the installation uses password enveloping, passwords set in an Offline RACF database may be presented via the password envelope to password synchronization applications like IBM Directory Integrator, without any indication that these passwords are set in an inactive Offline RACF database.
  • Automatic insertion of SYS1 and IBMUSER on first use of an empty Offline database.
  • Improved license code mechanism to use number of RACF environments for licensing.

Support for RACF-Offline version 1.1.3 and previous will be discontinued starting August 15 2006. After that date, problem resolution will most likely involve installation of the current version.
